MSAE's Annual Scholarship Opportunities
#1 - (PIA) Professional Improvement Award
This is a tuition scholarship program to assist association professionals and association business service professionals whose employing associations or companies cannot afford to cover the full cost of participating in an MSAE seminars, conferences or conventions.The scholarship program has been developed to achieve a number of objectives:
- To provide association and business service professionals with on-going continuing education opportunities.
- To assist association or companies who cannot, for whatever reason, provide the registration fees for MSAE events
- To enhance the knowledge of association and business service employees as they, in-turn will contribute to the association community as a whole.
Eligibility
Scholarships will be awarded for MSAE educational sessions, seminars, fall conferences, and executive expo.The MSAE Scholarship Committee will administer this program and will award up to 20 scholarships this year.
In order to be eligible to receive a scholarship:
- You must be a member of MSAE for at least one year .
- You must be employed full-time in a trade or professional association, or a business service that caters to the associations.
- Your association, for whatever reason, is unable to cover the continuing education session fee (no documentation required).
- You must not have received a scholarship in the previous year.
- The topic must be relevant to applicant's occupation.Applicants are responsible for their own travel expenses. Scholarships will be awarded on an individual basis rather than on a company or association basis.
Application should be completed at least four weeks prior to the session.
Responsibilities of Recipients
Scholarship recipients must attend the full program on the date and location specified in their application. If this is not possible, applicant must re-apply for a future session. Scholarships are not transferable to another individual.Scholarship recipient must provide a written recap highlighting the benefits of the session for possible inclusion in the FOCUS Newsletter.

#2 - Institute Scholarship

“Institute” is a professional education program for association and chamber of commerce executives sponsored by the National Chamber Foundation's Center for Leadership Development, an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.The purpose of the MSAE Institute Scholarship is to promote professional continuing education for Minnesota association executives and to recognize the value of the Institute program. The scholarship covers tuition only.The scholarship was established in 1977 by the MSAE Board of Directors. The number of scholarships and the amount(s) granted each year is determined by the MSAE Board of Directors. If sufficient funds are not available, less than full tuition may be awarded.
Eligibility:
The scholarship is open to association professionals who are members of MSAE at the time the scholarship is awarded. Persons applying for the scholarship must have completed one year of full-time work in an association position. You must not have received the Institute scholarship previously.
Responsibilities of Recipient:
Scholarship recipients agree to:
- Attend the MSAE Annual Meeting.
- Serve as a member of the Scholarship Committee the year following receipt of the scholarship.
- Provide a newsletter article on the Association-sponsored week at Institute.
- Attend the full week of Institute within one year of scholarship receipt

The Scholarship Committee may nominate a qualified individual who is interested in the program.
The Scholarship Committee:
The Chairperson is appointed by the MSAE President. The committee must select the recipient (for the Institute) no later than March 15 and notify all applicants immediately. Special acknowledgment will be given to the recipient(s) at the MSAE Annual Meeting. The scholarship award will be mailed to the recipient(s) by the MSAE office as soon as possible after notification/acceptance of the award.
